Instead, Maddy is a total brat, not serious about studies and notorious in his college. In contrast to him is his arch rival Sam (Saif Ali Khan), a model student, with whom Maddy is at constant loggerheads.The enmity goes so far that Maddy even tries to frame Sam."There are many things that happen on the editing table.There was a problem with only one of my scenes, which I could not reshoot because of some legal hassles regarding the location. If Apoorva cuts my scenes, the connection in the film will be broken because I am the sutradhar of the film," she says.Later, she was crowned Femina Miss India Universe and Miss Universe in 2000.Dutta primarily signed up to do the Tamil film, Arasatchi in 2002, but due to financial problems, it only released in mid-2004.She says it was the Nasr Dramatic Society, an in-school club which boosted her morale.After finishing school, Dia attended Stanley Junior College and completed her graduation in Bachelor of Arts from Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad.
She credits Nasr School for giving her the confidence and to pursue acting.

Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (English: I Want to Stay in Your Heart) is a 2001 Indian romance film written and directed by Gautham Menon starring Madhavan, Diya Mirza and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles. Maddy is the son of a music shop owner (Anupam Kher) who hopes that Maddy will someday take over his shop.
Sam challenged Maddy for one-on-one fight, to which Maddy happily agreed.
But the fight was interrupted in between by the professors.
